The De-risking Government Technology Guide 2.0 is Coming Soon!
Did you know that only 13% of the government’s large software projects are successful? Within the overall government space, access to technology isn’t the challenge – outdated practices are. In response, GSA developed the De-risking Government Technology Guide 2.0.

This publication provides guidance for federal and state agencies about how to reduce risk and wasteful spending in software-development projects. It provides straightforward recommendations for:

  • Budgeting for software-development projects
  • Procuring professional software-development services
  • Effectively supporting software-development teams
The guide is designed for anyone involved in the budgeting, contracting, or project execution of an agency mission through any government program, whether it resides in a department, agency, or bureau.

GSA’s Login.gov Expands Support to Cities and States
GSA’s Login.gov program provides authentication and identity-verification capabilities to government agencies and states. As use of the program continues to expand, federal, state, and local agencies realize benefits. This article is the first in our series of features about how the Login.gov program supports U.S. states and their residents.

In 2022, our Login.gov team – working in partnership with the Department of Labor (DOL) – sought to modernize and secure state unemployment-insurance programs. In March of that year, a pilot program was launched in Arkansas to allow unemployment-benefits claimants to easily file for crucial benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic. That success ultimately led to the implementation of successful programs in other states, including Hawaii, where many people were able to access unemployment benefits after the tragic wildfire in Maui.
