GSA’s Login.gov Expands Support to Cities and States

GSA’s Login.gov program provides authentication and identity-verification capabilities to government agencies and states. As use of the program continues to expand, federal, state, and local agencies realize benefits. This article is the first in our series of features about how the Login.gov program supports U.S. states and their residents.

In 2022, our Login.gov team – working in partnership with the Department of Labor (DOL) – sought to modernize and secure state unemployment-insurance programs. In March of that year, a pilot program was launched in Arkansas to allow unemployment-benefits claimants to easily file for crucial benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic. That success ultimately led to the implementation of successful programs in other states, including Hawaii, where many people were able to access unemployment benefits after the tragic wildfire in Maui.

Read more about how the success of this partnership expanded the use of Login.gov and directly benefitted American citizens.
